Information Architecture & Systems Thinking

VR Chaney Wedding Website

Val & Ray Chaney Wedding Website

Project Overview

Every project begins with the same question:

How can I make this easier for people?

Rather than treating the website as a digital invitation, I approached it as an information system. Guests traveling to the New Orleans area needed more than event details; they needed clear directions, transportation options, hotel recommendations, and an intuitive experience that answered questions before they had to ask them.

By organizing information around the guest journey, I transformed a collection of disconnected details into a single, user-friendly resource.

Objective

Wedding planning often involves scattered information, repeated questions, and unnecessary stress. My goal was to create a centralized digital experience where guests could easily find everything they needed, from RSVPs and travel recommendations to registry information and the couple's story. This allowed Valerie and Ray to spend less time answering questions and more time enjoying their engagement.

Solution

A responsive website that combined storytelling with practical functionality.

  • A personalized "Our Story" timeline highlighting the couple's nine-year journey.

  • A centralized RSVP and registry experience.

  • Local travel guidance, maps, and transportation recommendations.

  • Organized event information that reduced guest confusion.

  • Mobile-friendly navigation designed for quick access on any device.

The completed website became the central communication hub for the wedding, replacing scattered conversations with one reliable source of information. Guests could quickly find answers on their own, reducing repetitive questions and creating a smoother planning experience for everyone involved.

More importantly, the project demonstrated how thoughtful information architecture can improve the user experience even in life's biggest celebrations.
